Perth Glory is one of only two teams surviving from the old National Soccer League to play in the new Hyundai A-League. Glory set standards on and off the pitch from their inception in 1995, culminating in back-to-back Championships in 2003 and 2004.
The new Hyundai A-League saw football (soccer) enter a new era in Australia and Glory were able to boast two of the competition's best players in the first season. Bobby Despotovski picked up the inaugural Johnny Warren Medal, voted as the top player in the league by his fellow professionals while Nick Ward was named as the Hyundai Rising Star as the best young player in the league.
